Kyle and Scott's Colorado farm to table wedding at Lyons Farmette is an authentic Calluna Events style wedding. We loved all the detials of this wedding. Kyle's vision for simple and understated elegance mixed with farmy details brought together a lovely ambiance that complimented the rustic feel of the working farm.

Kyle had signs made that paired nicely with the rustic farm details.

Kyle used an old door with vintage keys to create an escort card display that fit right in with the surroundings.

The favors were salted caramels hand made the bride.

Old fashioned type was incorporated throughout the guest tables and dessert tables.

The Calluna Events team styled the event design in the brides' vision.

Brighter Day Floral designed centerpieces in rustic wood boxes made by the brides mother.


The bride and Brighter Day Floral provided hundreds of mercury glass votives which were scattered throughout reception.

The Farmette is lovely when the sun goes down!

Hundreds of lanterns were placed all over the property and provided most of the candlelight after the sun went down. They lined the driveway to show the guests their way out.

In what has become one of our favorite traditions it's time to highlight and recap the year as well as show you our favorite images from our 2011 weddings. Not only does this tradition allow us to look through our weddings and reminisce about all the fun we had, it allows us to be truly humbled and gracious for the opportunities we have all year long.

And it is with that spirit we want to say an enormous thank you; tothe brides and grooms we have the honor of working with and all of the incredible wedding vendors in Colorado we had the opportunity to work with throughout the year! Our clients and vendors make what we do truly a joy.

Pinterest, my new obsession and a great tool for wedding inspiration

Have you been on Pinterest yet? We are obsessed! I started using it for personal inspiration and a creative outlet. However now we are using it as a tool to plan weddings for our clients. It's so easy to plan, organize and share lovely things, in one place, you visualize for your wedding. We create pin boards for our clients to help bring their ideas together for them. Our brides are also using it to create inspiration boards to show off their flower, colors, decor ideas, favors and so much more. If you haven't found Pinterest yet be prepared to watch the time click slowly by as you spend hours getting inspired, creating boards and "pinning"!

And Pinterest is not just for weddings, you can redesign and decoration your home, get inspired to travel to far off places, create a new look and find many DIY projects to tackle. To get started, request an invite.

Colorado Mountain wedding luxury at the Four Seasons Vail

If you are looking for a true, luxury Colorado Mountain wedding experience, the Four Seasons Vail is the place location for you! A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Four Seasons Vail to experience the resort as a bride would. My husband, Brandon and daughter Maggie joined me to share some peace, relaxation and quality time together. The experience is one I won't soon forget and made the Four Seasons Vail one of my new favorite venues for Colorado brides.

The Vail location of the Four Seasons is a 5-star hotel and is found just at the bottom of Vail Resort. It is not only surrounded by breathtaking scenery but exemplifies the best in a Colorado luxury alpine lodge and resort.

We arrived at the resort and were granted an early check in so we could get settled in our room. We found many amenities in our room that made our stay enjoyable, lovely and easier! Not only were we greeted with yummy, homemade treats and a bottle of sparking wine, there was a container of Horizon Organic Milk with cookies for our 2 year old. Nothing was spared when it came to amenities to make our life easier travelling with a toddler. There was a full size crib with luxurious sheets for Maggie along with a stuffed bear awaiting her slumber. They also provided baby lotions, a baby bathtub and diapering supplies! Now I know I was looking at the property from a brides perspective, not the mother of a toddler, however I appreciate the time and energy the Four Seasons staff provided to ensure the things that would be important to us were provided in our resort experience. Knowing the extent they went to ensure our comfort solidifies in my mind the lengths they will go to to provide an outstanding experience for our brides and grooms, their families and guests.

I truly appreciated the in-room espresso machine (I love great coffee), the ultra-soft sheets, in-room humidifier, fireplace that turned on with the flip of a switch, our balcony complete with a view of Vail Mountain and the outdoor heated lap pool, the large bath tub separate from the shower and walk in closet.

Maggie went down for a nap and I headed to the spa. I couldn't remember the last time I was in a spa and I took full advantage of that fact (can you say working mother?). They have a large steam room and hot pools. The spa is spacious and no detail was spared. I was treated to one of the best facial and massage combinations I've ever had the pleasure of receiving. The therapists knew the questions to ask but also allowed me to relax during my treatments. After my treatments Maggie & Brandon joined me in taking a dip in the outdoor hot pools while it was snowing. What an idyllic setting - hot pools, snow falling, snow covered mountains, an outdoor fireplace....and did I mention the heated towels and bathrobes we donned poolside?

That evening the three of us dined at Flame. The menu at Flame is focused on seasonal slow-cooked mountain fare. Each of our dishes was spectacular and artfully created. Our waitress explained that the dishes are made with the finest ingredients, many of them locally sourced. We were told that the game and meats were the specialty of the house and I was not disappointed with my steak. The service was impeccable; they not only took great care of us, they made sure that Maggie had everything she needed as well. Flame offers a spectacular private room, “Out of Bounds,” in the back of the restaurant. With a glowing fireplace surrounded by an intricate wine display, Flame’s private dining room is ideal for private gatherings of up to 24 people. I look forward to planning a rehearsal dinner in Out of Bounds.

The next morning I met the Catering & Sales staff at the Four Seasons. I hadn't been at the property since the spring and it was exciting to hear about the success of the 2011 wedding season and new offerings for 2012 brides. Overall my experience at the Four Seasons Vail could not have been better. I would be honored to recommend the resort for 2012 weddings and cannot wait to partner with them during the wedding seasons. If you are looking for a true, luxury Colorado Mountain wedding experience, the Four Seasons Vail is the place location for you!

The holidays are a time of reflection where we think back and realize we have a lot to be thankful for. Our clients are the reason we do what we love each and every day. And we are thankful for them, the vendors we are honored to work with, the new people we collaborate with and the people that inspire and challenge us!

Here's a small list of what we love, what motivates us, why we love whatwe do and why we are thankful. Thank you for everything in 2011, we look forward to creating many new, wonderful and lovely experiences with you in 2012!

From the Bride…Nick and I met in our first year of graduate school at The University of Virginia. We attended most of the same classes, as we had both entered the same architecture program, so it was perhaps inevitable that we’d notice each other, and eventually we began dating. Upon graduation we decided to start fresh in a new city. We landed in Boulder, Colorado. After living there only a few months we knew it was the best decision we had made. The mountains, trails, skiing, snowboarding, and all of the adventurous activities in our new backyard proved to be our cup of tea. It was a no-brainer: We would be married in our new hometown…six years later!

I am not one of those girls who knew exactly what she wanted her wedding to be like since the age of 5 and it was a bit intimidating to start the planning process. I felt a pressure to make this one day the ultimate expression of us as a couple, as it would forever be captured in hundreds of photographs. Luckily I had no problems deciding on my dress. It was the third one I tried on and I was in love, though it made me a bit nervous to pick my dress without knowing our wedding venue. It wasn’t until a couple of months later that we had the church and reception venue secured, and upon this decision everything else seemed to simply fall into place. Now it was a lot easier to envision how the whole day would unfold.

Both of us are architects, so we knew that we were going to be designing the wedding ourselves from top to bottom. This strategy made all of the little design elements and details that much more personal and unique – but not without a bit of blood, sweat, and tears. I think we got the most enjoyment out of designing the invitations (5 times over!). This was done very early in the planning process and it really set a guideline and aesthetic tone for the design, decorations, and the day in general. We found old frames and fashioned them into large chalkboards – even today they are hanging in our house! Our aim was simplicity and thoughtfulness in décor, as our backyard reception venue was already well-appointed with some very strong red awnings. As a complement we chose white and gray to be our primary colors for a simple, classic look. In a bit of serendipity, our borrowed getaway truck (a classic 1964 International Harvester Scout 80) was nearly a perfect match for the orange-red door of the church!

We had help from Calluna Events to help pull the whole day together, and both of us could not be happier with the way things turned out. I never really expected to have THAT much fun at my own wedding – I thought there would be more stress or obligations to tend to that would get in the way – but it truly was the best time ever.

Winter Solstice wedding inspiration

Happy winter solstice! We hope you are staying warm and cozy on this longest night and shortest day of the year! Tonight in Boulder there is a winter solstice wedding taking place and we had the pleasure of working with the couple a bit. Why a wedding on a Wednesday in the middle of winter? The idea of winter solstice wedding is very romantic to me. Imagine getting married on the cusp of the transition from days being the most dark to the beginning of days that are more and more filled with light. Your days getting brighter metaphorically and in reality when joining your life together at the solstice. I simply love this thought! And with that...some winter solstice inspiration. Enjoy!

CURED, not just a cheese shop! A unique event venue in Boulder!

I recently helped my friends Pete & Sally plan Sally's 40th birthday party at Cured in Boulder. Cured is a small shop focused on preserving a personal connection to food. They offer a delightful selection of cheeses, cured meats, table wines, and other unique grocery items. The owners, Will & Coral are personal friends and I love that they are now sharing their passion for great food, Euro style, with the Boulder Community!

Sally's party was the second private event at Cured so it was fun for me to see the place come alive as well as see (and eat!) the yummy foods Will & Coral came up with. They focus on simple food - small bites, chunks of cheeses on wood blocks, piles of sliced meats, seasoned nuts and olives and local unique items that are all carefully hand chosen. They have a private label red & white wine, both are delicious as well as a well rounded selection of wines, beers and spirits. For our event they even prepared a wonderful seasonal pumpkin soup. I don't know about you but I love simple foods, especially really good cheese & bread!

Cured is the perfect spot for a birthday party, small gathering. It would be an out of the box idea for an intimate rehearsal dinner where the focus would be on small plates and mingling rather than sitting at tables and heavy courses. And Cured can prepare platters for your next in home party too!

Water for Elephants wedding inspiration board from Calluna Events & Perfect Petal

Calluna Events and the Perfect Petal, one of Denver's top wedding floral and design boutiques, came together recently to collaborate on a vignette for Anna be FIVE. We wanted to produced a space that would inspire brides and show them how we think outside of the box when conceptualizing their vision for their wedding day. Here is a look at our inspiration board and the vision behind the design. In a few days we will share with you the real life manifestation of that vision!

Special thanks to the incredibly talented and super lovely Katherine Lawrence of The Perfect Petal for designing the inspiration board, providing insight into our vision and for being the real creative spark and visionary throughout this process. Our vignette would not have been possible without her talent!

1. How did you come up with your inspiration board?

We knew immediately that we wanted to create something authentic and true tothe inspiration era. It also felt important to add a quirkiness to the designthat would encourage potential brides to think outside-the-box. We foundfabulous, truly vintage circus images that captured the simplicity andextravagance of the era. We added additional images based on our flower choiceand linens.

2. What was your favorite part of your vignette?

We used incredibly unique florals and created the floral pieces in a new wayloosely inspired by the Dutch Masters- we absolutely loved the finished product- especially the added pomegranates and figs.

We were enamoured by the older objects and used them as part of the table “stilllife” which added so much drama to the table.

One of the biggest elements was the projections of trapeze artists projectedonto the back tent. The ambiguity of artists performing “just beyondthe tent wall” was incredibly intriguing and gave a nod to modern film artists.

3. How could this vignette translate to a bride's wedding?

Oh what a wedding this would be!! Unique, intriguing and so much fun! Long tables and cascading floral centerpieces. Fabulous opulent food!! Along after party with a late night lounge. And of course performers -maybe silk artists? Or men serving on stilts? Nobody would want toleave!

4. Describe your vignette in three words.

Intriguing! Rich! Unique!

5. Given the constraints of space your vignette was only apiece of a wedding, name one other element you would add if you weren't limitedby space or budget?

Plush antique Persian rugs and fabulous heavy silkdrapes.

6. What is the theme song for your vignette?

“doo do doodododo do do do do” - you know, themerrie-go-round tune!!

7. Aside from Mile High Station, name one location inColorado where you would love to execute a wedding with your vignette's style?

Being a Colorado wedding planner has many perks. We are incredibly fortunate to meet and help a diversity of brides and grooms plan their Colorado wedding. One such couple is Donna & David. Engaging, inspiring and dedicated describe them both. It was such a pleasure getting to know them during their wedding planning process. We learned they came from very diverse backgrounds and seemed an unlikely pair, she being immersed in the Boulder Jewish Community, David a devote Christian and them each dedicated to their individual faith.

During our first meeting Donna told me that she and David were featured in an article in Oprah Magazine in 2007 about why it is never to late to find true love. Reading the article provided even more insight into their relationship and why their decision to marry was that much more special. Donna & David are in their 50's and getting married for the first time.

We helped create a wedding that truly reflected their vision and was central to who they are as a couple. An emphasis on spirituality, contemplation, connection with nature, and joy were some of the values Donna & David wanted to imprint on their wedding. They wanted to create a very sacred space around their ceremony and brought in both the Jewish and Christian tradition by marrying under the huppah, holding a Ketubah signing and bedecken, incorporating the Seven Blessings, drinking of the wine, Christian prayers and Jewish readings, breaking of the glass and more. Red Rock Haven, a private residence in Lyons, Colorado provided a stunning backdrop for both the ceremony & reception. The ceremony took place right on the St. Vrain River which added a special element to the ambiance. Their happiness and love on their wedding day is evident in the images below.

How time flies! My daughter Maggie is nearly 2 and somehow I'm just now posting images from her 1st birthday! Thank you to our dear friend Erin of ELC Images for these lovely photos!

I collaborated with the incredibly talented Alli Bozeman of Bird Dog Press to design her first birthday invitation. Alli had been wanting to offer letterpress party invites with a DIY printable option. We collaborated on the design with the idea being you can print them yourself at home. Bird Dog Press currently offers many print your own party invites on their website.

And of course the planner in me had to coordinate the suite of other printed items such as the flags for the cake, cupcakes and food as well as the favors and toddler snack packs! Alli help with the flags and printed the "M" for Maggie on sticky paper so it was easy to use.

Lastly the yummy & beautiful cupcakes were created by Tee & Cakes
