A Colorado wedding at Planet Bluegrass

Here are some photos from Emily & Mark's Colorado wedding on June 13th that took place at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, Colorado. Special thanks to Andrew Chapman Photography for sharing these amazing photographs from their special day!

Some super fun getting ready shots of the wedding dress and wedding shoes.

Emily and her Mom share a special moment just before the ceremony. Emily's bridal bouquet and wedding flowers were provided by the European Flower Shop.

Mark and the guys chill out before the ceremony. Andrew Chapman as an awesome way of capturing the groom and groomsmen hanging out during the wedding! What fun images!

The wedding colors were an aqua blue, orange and green and were lovely for a summer outdoor wedding!

Emily's hair was done by the talented Andy Mendoza and bridal make-up was done by the equally fabulous Jessica Shinyeda of The Face Lab.

The food for the cocktail hour and wedding reception was provided by Big Bang Catering, a local Colorado caterer that uses local and organic produce wherever possible.

Happy wedding Emily & Mark. What a beautiful day! Congrats and thanks for letting Calluna Events be a part of your wedding celebration!

A little Calluna Events love from a mother of the bride!

Today we got this lovely letter from a Mother 0f the Bride. It's emails like this that make our day! Thank you so much for your appreciation of what we do as wedding planners and for the warm wishes!

Heather! I am so glad that you are going to be our wedding coordinator and friend. I thought for a long time that I could do it all and I know you hear that all the time. But meeting you made all that go away. You just have such a sparkle and seem so together that I know it will be the best. I want you to always feel that you can say - "um, no guys that is a huge mistake, or go for it" - whatever the case might be - that is something that we will need when we start to get wacky. I know you are having a busy weekend but just wanted to say hi. And, thank you, for what you do!

Honored and humbled,
Heather

A Summer wedding at Flagstaff Restaurant in Boulder

Two years ago, our friends Michele & John Bliss were married at the Flagstaff House Restaurant on top of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, CO. Calluna Events helped them with their planning and it turned out to be a fabulous day for a wedding! I had met John first in my old life as the Development Director for The Access Fund, a Boulder based non-profit. John did some legal and lobbying work for the Access Fund and we knew each other then. I reconnected with both John and Michele a few years later when they became regular customers at my husband's bike shop, Boulder Cycle Sport. As engaged, avid cyclists/racers, they supported the local bike shop and the local wedding planner! We were so thrilled to help them since they had such a special place in our hearts. Happy Anniversary John & Michele and here's to many more!

I worked with my husband and Boulder Cycle Sport to have custom water bottles made for favors!

Calluna Events interns head to the European Flower Shop

Last week the Calluna Events interns headed to the European Flower Shop, a Boulder based wedding florist, for our weekly wedding meeting to learn about wedding flowers, bridal bouquets, centerpieces and all things floral for weddings! Kristina Sutcliffe, owner and head designer of European, spent an hour with us describing the entire process of working with a bride on her wedding. We talked about the initial consultation, how she writes proposals, pricing for wedding flowers, their assembly and organization of the workload for the wedding weekend, and follow up with the bride on details as we get closer. She even showed us how they "process" flowers and how to make a succulent boutonniere!

Kristina treated us to IZZE's, an assortment of fruits and yummy cookies! Thanks for the fun and for sharing your insight and expertise with us!

Kristina and Michelin explain to Taryn, Crista and Haley the importance of wedding flowers!

Some of the gorgeous pink flowers for their upcoming wedding.

Kristina explains how to process flowers.

Jenna Walker Photographers - wedding photojournalism

You've probably noticed that we work with Jenna and Matt Walker and Katie Thurmes from Jenna Walker quite a bit. Look back through our recent blog posts and on the Calluna Events website and you'll notice that they shoot a lot of our clients weddings. There is a reason for that! We simply love their photography style, the way they interact with our brides and grooms, their professionalism on the job and the final product. Plus they are super cool and so much fun to be around and truly make our job, as wedding planners, easier. So we sat down with them recently to find out a little bit more. Enjoy!

Years in Business: 5

Location: Located one mile high in Denver, Colorado. Available worldwide.

Most memorable wedding yet: We love a good surprise! We once photographed a wedding down in Mexico with a surprise Mariachi band. The bride & groom hired the band to sneak up on the ceremony at it's end - something the guests had no idea was coming. It was the perfect ending to the ceremony and made for a joyful processional and welcoming of their new life together. That and we have yet to see such a surprised group of guests.

On another occasion, a best friend to one of our brides surprised the newlyweds with a SECOND first dance. She had hired a local musician, whom they had all watched together just days earlier, to play one of their favorite songs just as the first dance ended. After dancing to the DJ's song and believing they were finished, the bride and groom were brought to tears as the young girl played one of their favorite songs on her acoustic guitar. There was not a dry eye on the dance floor (ours included!).

I love it when a bride & groom: are present in the moment.
Favorite part of a wedding: There are so many details that go into a wedding to make it what it is - but it's the emotions of the day that get to us most. We love the anticipation and excitement in those getting ready moments leading up to the ceremony. Here we can see both the bride and groom, surrounded by those that love them most, in their most anticipated moment - and it is then we realize just how right they are for each other - knowing each is so badly wanting to walk down that aisle and begin the adventure of a lifetime.

Our favorite kind of bride is: joyful. We love people with passion for a life well-lived - whether that's on her wedding day or every day before and after, we love those that see life as nothing short of a celebration. It is that joy that gives meaning to what we do.

What sets us apart from other wedding photographers: Our clients would say we have a unique ability to capture emotion in the moment, as it happens. We relate to a lot of different types of people and most would say they feel very comfortable in front of our cameras - whether they initially thought they would or not - their true colors are able to shine through.

Trends we are seeing for 2009: We are seeing more and more people wanting to go back to the basics - back to the true meaning of a photograph - and seeking that in their wedding imagery. So many of our clients simply want us to capture the wedding day as it happened - remembering the day for its moments and the people in their lives instead of by formal or high-fashion photos. While we still shoot editorially, we love documenting the people in your life and how their love for you shows itself on that one special day. If you think about it, the guests at your wedding are a unique group that represent the two of your lives coming together - it is pretty amazing.

Anything else you’d like to add: We love doing what we do and feel so lucky to be a part of peoples' most life-changing days. A wedding is your Day One - it is the beginning of legacy that will grow over time - and when you watch Grandparents, still happy together and dancing at their granddaughter's wedding, you realize just how amazing the love in that room is. We wish for you great joy on your big day - and many amazing moments! And of course, photos to remember it by.

A Boulder Wedding with pink peonies and style!

Two weeks ago, on June 6th, Calluna Events coordinated the wedding of Sarah and Dan. Here are some teaser photos from the amazingly talented Colorado wedding photographer, Recherche Photography. Enjoy!

Sarah's bouquet was a stunning collection of bright pink peonies. The flowers were done by Brighter Day Floral - a Boulder based wedding florist.

Sarah is walked down the aisle by her father during the church ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder.

The bride & groom enjoy a sweet moment outside the church, moments after the ceremony ended.

A stylish photo of the inside of the church during the ceremony. The wedding had nearly 250 guests from all around the world in attendance!

Such a happy couple! Sarah wore an amazing wedding dress and was one of the most beautiful brides!

Tee and Cakes designed and made the cake for the day. The wedding cake was decorated with white peonies that matched the style and decor of the wedding.

I love this shot! This is a fun candid shot of the bride & groom in the limo on the way to the St. Julien for the reception.

Again, such a fun shot of Sarah surrounded by her girlfriends!

A classic Recherche shot! Bridal wedding shoes!

The ballroom at the St. Julien was elegantly decorated with the help of Brighter Day Floral.

Guests moved from the ballroom into the lobby at the St. Julien Hotel and Spa for the dancing and reception portion of the evening. The lobby was transformed into a lovely, elegant space with large metal planters filled with peonies separating the hotel space from the wedding guests.

Wedding guests danced the night away to the sounds of the most amazing wedding band, the Hazel Miller Band.

A Colorado Mountain wedding in June.

This past weekend we were so busy at Calluna Events that we didn't have time to post the anniversary of one of our favorite couples. Lisa & Cam held their Colorado Mountain wedding at Gold Lake Resort & Spa last June and Calluna Events was lucky enough to be their wedding planner. Photo compliments of Ashley Davis Photography.

Lisa and Cam were such a fun couple to work with. They met in Las Vegas where Lisa was celebrating a friend’s birthday and Cam was celebrating his best friend’s bachelor party. The two ended up on the dance floor at the same time and as they say, the rest is history.
Both were living in different states at the time so a long distance relationship ensued. Their first “real” date was actually in Paris! Lisa and Cam love to travel and spent most of their courtship in different states and countries. How fun!

Lisa and Cam decided to have their wedding at the Gold Lake Resort & Spa so that all of their friends and family could stay in one place. Gold Lake is a beautiful resort off of the Peak to Peak Highway outside of Ward, CO. When you have your wedding there you are required to reserve all of the cabins for the weekend. This ensures that the resort is completely yours and very private. The ceremony site overlooks a large lake with a stunning mountain background. A true Colorado wedding!

The ceremony took place by the side of the lake with the Continental Divide in the background. The location was breathtaking and the weather couldn't’t have been better. Friends played the couples’ favorite Coldplay song “Yellow” acoustically during the ceremony and it was a lovely touch.

The wedding cake was made by Shamane's Bakeshope a Boulder Colorado baker and was made to resemble the brides wedding dress. The wedding flowers were done by Sturtz & Copeland.

Lisa surprised Cam with a bagpiper who cam in half way through their first dance song, The Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney & Wings.

After the ceremony, the wedding guests walked to the cocktail reception which took place outdoors next to the reception tent. The guest tables were named after places the couple had travelled together. What a great table number idea!

Favors were toothbrushes…a nod to Lisa’ being a Dentist and owner of Comfort Dental in Boulder. The entire evening was perfect!

Happy Anniversary Jen & Brett

Special wishes go out today to one of Calluna Events favorite couples, Jen & Brett, on their third anniversary! It seems like yesterday that we were the wedding planner for their June 11th wedding.

Each of the bridesmaids carried a bouquet of different type flowers by Fiori Flowers in Boulder.

The cake was made by Shamane's Bakeshoppe in Boulder
and perfectly matched the wedding decor.

The wedding ceremony took place at the Flagstaff Amphitheater atop Boulder, Colorado. In this photo, the wedding party watch as the bride walks down the aisle with her father.

Shamane's Bakeshoppe also provided a dessert table full of yummy pastries
and other lovely wedding desserts.

Jen was such a stunning bride!

The reception took place at the quintessential Boulder wedding venue, the Chautauqua Dining Hall.

The bridal bouquet was a combination of pink and white flowers such as calla lilies, peonies, roses, tulips and in fact had each flower that was in each the bridesmaids bouquets.

The decor for the reception was simple but very elegant - potted orchids that also doubled as favors for the wedding guests to take home.

Jen & Brett showcased their love of wine by naming each table after a particular type of wine.

Lockerpartners are very talented wedding videographers!

We just wanted to share this wonderfully fun, unique and special wedding video from Joanne and Jake's wedding.

Special thanks to Mary Grace & Emily from Lockerpartners Video, a Denver Colorado wedding videographer. This was our first time working with Mary Grace & Emily and we are blown away to say the least. Sometimes it's hard to find a really great wedding videographer but these ladies really know how to capture moments and edit them into a wonderful collaboration of wedding day memories.

The music is compliments of The Flaming Lips. Joanne and Jake danced their first dance to this song.

Happy 4th Anniversary Kathleen & Bob from Calluna Events!

Happy 4th Anniversary to one of Calluna Events all time favorite couples! Kathleen & Bob Burgin were married FOUR years ago today and we had the pleasure of helping them with the planning and day of coordination for their wedding. Here are some photos from their incredible day taken by the extremely talented Regina Mountjoy from Recherche Photography.

Kathleen and Bob used this as their thank you note for their wedding. They were the first couple I ever saw to do this and I think they started a trend!

the beautiful wedding flowers were by Fiori Flowers, Boulder Colorado wedding florist.

The wedding reception was held at the wonderful Flagstaff House Restaurant in Boulder Colorado.

Wedding guests were encouraged to write the bride and groom notes on little cards that they placed into a vase. The notes were then bound into a guest book for the couple.

Kathleen and Bob created an incredible program that showcased many poems and things that were meaningful to them both.
Their wedding rings were custom made by Boulder fine jeweler Carla Morrison Design.

Kathleen's son Noah walked her down the aisle!

Guests picked up their place card from a place card tree.

The Flagstaff House Restaurant created their stunning custom wedding cake.

Happy anniversary again Kathleen & Bob
