Beth & Joe's October wedding at the JW Marriott in Denver

Beth & Joe :: October 17, 2009
JW Marriott :: Cherry Creek
Photography by Lindsay B Photography
I'm very excited to share Beth & Joe's wedding photographs from the super talented Lindsay Brindley of Lindsay B Photography. Although I've known Lindsay for some time now and we've tried to work together on several occasions, this was the first wedding we had together.
Beth was such a lovely bride to work with! She hired Calluna Events because we had coordinated her brother Mike's wedding a two years ago. Beth had incredible taste and wonderful ideas about what she wanted for her wedding day. She assembled a team of top-notch wedding vendors and the day ended up beautiful!
I LOVE Beth's fuchsia wedding shoes!

Beth's chose a soft blue for the bridesmaids dresses and incorporated this
color throughout the wedding decor.

Little touches that made the wedding day special and really come together!

The wedding party having fun walking down the street in Cherry Creek.

Beth's bridal bouquet was a lush assortment of pinks, reds and yellows with some accents of stones. All of the flowers were designed by Nicole and Swank Stems.

More incredible details fill out the wedding decor. From a candy bar to custom bar napkins to a variety of centerpieces on the tables, this wedding had complete class and style!

Congratulations Beth & Joe!

Snowy October weddings in Colorado

Ashley & Matt's snowy Colorado wedding
Boettcher Mansion :: Golden, Colorado
Last weeks snowfall reminded me of Ashley & Matt's October 12, 2008 wedding at Boettcher Mansion atop Lookout Mountain in Golden Colorado. Because it was a rainy, turned snowy evening, Ashley & Matt made the best of it as we moved their ceremony indoors and created a warm and intimate setting in front of the fireplace. They were married in front of 50 of their closest friends and family and the weather outside created the perfect feeling of coziness inside.

The bride and groom venture outside in the rain and fog for some post ceremony photos.

Ashley surprised Matt with a bagpiper that piped her into the ceremony! It was magical!

Ashley worked with a friend to design all the flowers for her wedding.

Stationery was very important to Ashley as she works in the stationery department at
Sturtz & Copeland in Boulder. She worked with HammerPress
on their custom letterpress invitations.

Working with Catering by Design we created a long table were all of her guests could sit and enjoy themselves. Ashley & Matt worked with Catering by Design to create a custom menu that featured figs and autumn favorites.

Megan & Jamil's Colorado Mountain wedding 09.26.09

Megan & Jamil
September 26, 2009
Ceremony :: 7W Guest Ranch, Colorado
Reception :: Westin Riverfront Hotel, Avon, Colorado
Photography by Chip Kalback
Last weekend we were in the glorious Colorado mountains for Megan & Jamil sustainable and green wedding. They chose the Westin because of it's green initiatives and made an effort to imprint green and sustainable pieces throughout their wedding weekend - from the handmade coat hanger chandeliers, to the organic and locally grown flowers for the bouquets and centerpieces, and the bio-dynamic wines chosen for their reception. They had a lovely fall day for their outdoor ceremony on a private ranch, and the Westin staff provided excellent food and service for their reception later that evening.

Fall Weddings in Beaver Creek Colorado

This past weekend I had an incredible time in the mountains. My first stop was the nearly new Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Avon for Megan & Jamil's wedding. I was excited to stay at and do a wedding with the Westin because it was completed this year and is a LEED certified hotel - it was built green and has over 300 initiatives in place to operate green. Not only does the hotel provide wonderful services, but it does so in an environmentally friendly atmosphere!

The next day, my husband Brandon joined me and we headed over for a one-year anniversary visit to the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch. You might remember my past blog post from earlier this year when I met with the catering & sales staff at the Ritz. A few of the members of the staff have moved on to other Ritz properties since then and I wanted to re-acquaint the Ritz Carlton staff with Calluna Events. As I've mentioned before, everything about the Ritz Carlton exudes elegance, luxury and comfort and the service is impeccable! We spent the day hiking around the hotel and then spending a few hours in the spa. :) We ended our evening with a scrumptious dinner at Spago - their own restaurant on property.

Our hostess, Karen Conklin spent the next morning with me. We talked about weddings at the Ritz and the services they provide for their clients that sets them apart. In the summer, the mountain backdrop creates an incredible view for a wedding ceremony. In fact, there are several places on the property to hold outdoor ceremonies. The entire property is stunning! The ballroom, the cocktail space, the guest rooms....everything. Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch is definitely a notch above other properties in the area and it's their service and attention to detail that sets them apart from other properties. I am thrilled to recommend this wedding venue I'm looking forward to working with them...hopefully in the near future.

We headed to the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail and spent the day hiking through golden colored aspens. Through four generations, the Sonnenalp has grown into a world-class hotel, offering the finest of luxuries and comforts. Exceptional dining, outstanding shopping and the pristine slopes of Vail are only steps away in the heart of Vail Village.

The next morning I met with Hollie Johnson, the Director to Conference Services at the Sonnenalp. There are a few places on property to hold your wedding ceremony and/or reception from an outdoor grassy terrace surrounded by aspens to the indoor space at Ludwigs that features wall to floor windows. The Sonnenalp is walking distance to the mountainside and would be a stunning stop for your wedding, rehearsal dinner or morning after brunch.

Happy Anniversary Sabina & Heath - a Steamboat wedding and Calluna Events milestone!

Happy Anniversary Sabina & Heath
September 5, 2004
Happy Labor Day! Five years ago this past weekend Calluna Events helped our dear friends, Sabina & Heath get married in Steamboat Colorado. Sabina & Heath were our very first official wedding. We had planned other weddings, just not as Calluna Events. We are honored to say that five years later Sabina & Heath are healthy, happy and just gave birth to an adorable baby girl. As for Calluna Events, we are of course still in business and thriving! Much thanks to Sabina & Heath for being our "first" and many, many congratulations to them for their big milestone! Happy 5 years!

Sabina & Heath's wedding took place in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado at the High Meadows Ranch. We awoke to find 1.5 inches of snow covering the ground...which made the day exciting and challenging since their ceremony and reception was outside. All ended well as the clouds broke around 1pm. By the ceremony at 3pm, the sun was shining and the snow had melted!After the ceremony and a champagne toast, guest mingled with Heath & Sabina while hors d'oeuvres were passed. Dinner & dancing followed into the night under a white tent dotted with pink paper lanterns.The bride's brother, Dan, entertained the 120 guests with a special, multi-media slide show presentation of Sabina & Heath's climbing & outdoor adventures from around the globe.

Amy & Heath - A Devil's Thumb Ranch Colorado Wedding

Amy & Heath :: June 13, 2009
Photography :: Recherche Photography
Location :: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Tabernash, CO
Amy & Heath contacted Calluna Events in October of last year and were looking for a wedding planner to plan a summer destination wedding for them in Colorado. They were living in Virginia but had spent the last few years living in Colorado and it had a special place in their hearts. The wedding would be a destination wedding in every sense of the word - everyone was travelling in from out of town. And the bride and groom wanted to show them the Colorado they know and love! The ultra talented wedding photographer Regina Mountjoy from Recherche Photography was able to capture their special moments throughout their wedding day.

Based on our initial meeting with them, we recommended the gorgeous Devil's Thumb Ranch in Tabernash Colorado for the site of their wedding weekend. Amy has a passion for horses and the two of them love the outdoors and being in the Colorado mountains so we thought this would be the perfect site for their wedding. Turns out we were right! They fell in love and booked it right away!

Their wedding was officiated by the lovely Joel Davis. We've worked with Joel a lot and recomend him to couples wanting to infuse a special and unique aspects into their wedding ceremony.

The wedding flowers were arranged by the European Flower Shop a Boulder based wedding florist. Amy & Heath both loved working on the flowers and decor and chose a simple but classy black, chocolate brown and red floral theme.

In keeping with their colors we brought in chocolate brown linens that complemented with the red roses in the centerpieces. Amy and Heath showcased each of their pets, several horses, dogs and cats, in their table names and escort cards! How fun!

The cake was designed by Kim Boos of Tee and Cakes, a Boulder based wedding baker. Amy & Heath chose the design to complement with their black, chocolate and red color scheme.

Happy Anniversary Lida & Jonathan - A Colorado shabby chic wedding!

Lida and Jonathan were hands down one of our favorite couples! Not only were they fun, laid back and super easy to work with, they had great style and really wanted to create an incredible wedding weekend that reflected the two of them. Now they have become great friends and I love seeing them and continuing to keep in touch! They were married on August 17, 2008 and are celebrating their one year anniversary today!

When I first met with Lida and Jonathan my immediate thought was, “Wow, these two have a lot of good ideas and they really know what they are looking for.” They were articulate and came to our first meeting with photos printed out from weddings they liked. They even made a list of weddings they liked on the Calluna Events website and noted certain elements that stuck out with them. We like detail oriented couples who like to be involved! Jonathan, seemed very interested in the color and décor. In fact, Jonathan and I worked very closely together on the wedding while Lida was in graduate school and I was amazed at how involved Jonathan wanted to be in picking the colors, designing the décor and helping with the style of the entire event.

The wedding took place at Lionscrest Manor in Lyons. We worked with TDA Design to transform Lionscrest Manor. The look they were going for was “Anthropologie” meets sophisticated shabby chic”.

The wedding took place in the morning in a traditional Jewish ceremony by Rabbi Morris. Lida was absolutely stunning in her dress and cathedral length veil that trailed behind her. Following the ceremony guests enjoyed a lunch followed by toasts, cake cutting, dancing and of course the Hora!

Each centerpiece was different and displayed elements such as bird cages, suitcases, and feathers. Guests mingled at a pre-ceremony cocktail hour and enjoyed mimosa and brunch type hors d’ouevres by Catering by Design.

At Calluna Events we help our clients with day of coordination, full service planning and everything in between. At my first meeting with Lida & Jonathan it became clear that they wanted help with everything, down to helping plan their Henna Celebration, their evening before BBQ and their wedding. Jonathan’s family is Jewish and he still has family in Israel. Planning a wedding weekend that included elements of his heritage was very important to both Lida and Jonathan. We started off the weekend by holding a traditional Moroccan Henna Celebration at the Lionsgate Center.

Guests were treated to an amazing array of traditional Moroccan Foods prepared by Catering by Design. Some of the foods closely resembled dishes that Jonathan’s family usually prepares at family celebrations. During the Henna, the family & wedding party made their way in a procession carrying platters of sweet cookies and treats, all to symbolize the sweetness of the marriage that was about to take place. We worked with TDA Design in Denver to design the entire décor so that Lionsgate was transformed into a Bedouin Tent set in Morocco Theme. Lida & Jonathan then sat up front in a throne area the guests and were given Henna by the bride & groom.

Guests were treated to a belly dancing performance and then music by Pure Sounds Productions. The next day the bride & groom hosted a casual BBQ in North Boulder Park in Boulder and Catering by Design provided picnic style food and décor.

Colorado weddings in August!

August is a great time to get married in Colorado and that is one reason why we haven't been posting blogs - we are BUSY! Last weekend was the busiest weekend yet this year - Calluna Events had three weddings in one weekend. Luckily we have an amazing staff who was literally all over the state to be able to be there for our brides and grooms.

On Saturday we had a wedding in Keystone at the Alpenglow Stube as well as a wedding in Boulder in North Boulder Park with reception at the Boulder Theater. And on Sunday our wedding took place at the Stadium Club on the campus of CU. All of the venues were super and we couldn't be happier for our newly-wedded couples! Congrats.

We also have had many, many past Calluna Events clients celebrating their anniversaries this month....here are a few photos!

Ashley & Matt - married August 13th three years ago!
Jamie & Pete celebrate one year this weekend, August 16th!
Jayme & Luke celebrated their 4th anniversary on the 6th. Wow!

Congratulations to all of our August couples - 2009 and in the past!

Rentals and decor for your Colorado Wedding

Lisa & Cam's wedding at Gold Lake - a Calluna Events & RC Special Events collaboration. Photo from Ashley Davis Photography

Yesterday the staff of Calluna Events headed over to RC Special Events in Gunbarrel, Colorado for a visit with the staff and a little tour. We also were treated to a little champagne, strawberries and chocolates compliments of Concertos in Chocolate. Yum!

We were thoroughly impressed. Since buying RC Special Events in 2007 the new owners, Ian and Audry have transformed the company into a thriving, vibrant place that offers all the normal event rental offerings, plus tons of amazing stylish products to shape and give a "Wow!" to your wedding or special event. From cutting edge colors in linens to chic lounge furniture, the options are endless for adding your own special touch onto your big day.

Event designers Kirk, Michelle and Brittney are super friendly and knowledgeable about all of the products that RC Special Events has and can steer you in the right direction to make your event rental and decor process smooth and simple. What we loved was their approach to creativity and thinking outside of the box. It seemed that no wedding or special event idea was beyond their reach. In fact, the idea of having to research a unique color or create a product especially for you was and exciting challenge for them.

We are very excited to be able to offer RC Special Events and a new company in the Calluna Events vendor portfolio. While we were there we actually realized we worked a wedding together last summer and we have a wedding coming up in October!

A little Calluna Events love from a mother of the bride!

Today we got this lovely letter from a Mother 0f the Bride. It's emails like this that make our day! Thank you so much for your appreciation of what we do as wedding planners and for the warm wishes!

Heather! I am so glad that you are going to be our wedding coordinator and friend. I thought for a long time that I could do it all and I know you hear that all the time. But meeting you made all that go away. You just have such a sparkle and seem so together that I know it will be the best. I want you to always feel that you can say - "um, no guys that is a huge mistake, or go for it" - whatever the case might be - that is something that we will need when we start to get wacky. I know you are having a busy weekend but just wanted to say hi. And, thank you, for what you do!

Honored and humbled,
Heather

A Summer wedding at Flagstaff Restaurant in Boulder

Two years ago, our friends Michele & John Bliss were married at the Flagstaff House Restaurant on top of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, CO. Calluna Events helped them with their planning and it turned out to be a fabulous day for a wedding! I had met John first in my old life as the Development Director for The Access Fund, a Boulder based non-profit. John did some legal and lobbying work for the Access Fund and we knew each other then. I reconnected with both John and Michele a few years later when they became regular customers at my husband's bike shop, Boulder Cycle Sport. As engaged, avid cyclists/racers, they supported the local bike shop and the local wedding planner! We were so thrilled to help them since they had such a special place in our hearts. Happy Anniversary John & Michele and here's to many more!

Photos compliments of Recherche Photography

I worked with my husband and Boulder Cycle Sport to have custom water bottles made for favors!
